Chainsmokers on working with Coldplay: "Group members Drew Taggart and Alex Pall told Heavy that the process of collaborating with Coldplay was a thrilling one. “We had heard through the grapevine that Coldplay listened to our music sometimes before they went on stage,” they explained, “So we reached out with the big old question mark about potentially working together.” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was ecstatic over the idea, and a few short months later, both groups were in the studio and formulating the collaborative effort that would become “Something Just Like This.”
Obviously it took some tinkering and stuff but working with Coldplay was incredible,” said Pall, “Chris and the band are such visionaries and they bring the same warmth in their music as they do to this project.” They master plan was to keep the collaboration a secret to premiere at the 2017 BRIT Awards, while simeoutaneously releasing the single online. “When we talked about this plan it seemed so ridiculous,” Pall added, “I think Drew and myself both half heartedly believed it, but here we are mission accomplished!”

Heard this song today on the radio in the car. I got all excited! I ordered pizza but waited until the song was done before I went in to get it. (Of course).

Hmm I don't like it much. It is "ok" but it has no flow and it sounds as if someone tried really hard to find a melody that matches the chords. It sounds a bit like a karaoke recording too. The vocals and the backing track sound like they have been mastered by different persons as they don't fit well. Summary: Fire the sound engineer and let me do it ♥ lol

Another interview about the collaboration: The Chainsmokers bring out Chris Martin's inner 'raver' The chart-topping electronic dance duo - comprised of pals Alex Pall and Drew Taggart - teamed up with the Coldplay frontman on their duet 'Something Just Like This Year', which was unveiled at the BRIT Awards last Wednesday (22.02.17), and producer Alex says they unleashed the 39-year-old rocker's secret love for dance music by collaborating on the EDM track.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he shared: "He was a raver in another life, he likes to dance. There's a spirit of dance music that you can find in his lyrics, a tone, the same feeling you get in the special dance songs.
"I can see why he's drawn to it in the same way we are drawn to all of his music."
The 'Closer' hitmakers also revealed they did everything they could to ensure they got to keep the song.
Alex explained: "We were willing to fight him to death for it.
"We only hung out one time, but it was sick to chill with some of our idols and hear his opinions. We delved into his world."
Meanwhile, the pair have revealed they could be working with U2 frontman Bono on some songs he's shared with them, which has weirded them out because they are such huge fans of the 'With or Without You' singer.
Alex's sidekick, Drew shared: "Getting Bono texts is weird, we met at the same time as Chris.
"He's got crazy charisma, he'll walk into a room and when he leaves everybody feels like he was only talking to them.
"He showed us some new songs that sounded exciting.
"He's been nothing but cool but we would be happy to offer our services. We're just students of Bono and Chris Martin."
The 'Selfie' stars previously said their session with Chris inspired them to be "better" people and they enjoyed speaking to him about their future.
They told BANG Showbiz: "You leave Chris Martin wanting to be a better person haha... He is magnetic and so talented, to be able to shoot the s**t talk about his music, our music, the future it was something."

I heard it on KROQ yesterday and for some reason I thought they weren't going to play it at all, so it made me happy.

Now that we know Something Just Like This will be on the coming Kaleidoscope EP, I moved your posts here from the News & Rumours section and added a poll. It sounds to me like it'll be the version of Something Just Like This that we've already heard. If they release a new version... we'll have to change this thread

The Chainsmokers & Coldplay Break YouTube Record for Most Single-Day Lyric Video Views 3/1/2017 by Colin Stutz
The "Something Just Like This" clip was viewed more than 9 million times in the 24 hours following its release. The Chainsmokers have broken YouTube's record for most single day views of a lyric video with some help from Coldplay. The "Something Just Like This" lyric video was streamed more than 9 million times in its first 24 hours of availability, according to Youtube, marking a new record previously held by Justin Bieber. The Chainsmokers and Coldplay unveiled "Something Just Like This" live at the Brit Awards last week just hours after the song hit streaming services and YouTube with hand-drawn visuals. Bieber had set the record in 2015 with his “What Do You Mean” lyric video, which was played 8.2 million times in its first day. The Chainsmokers also currently hold the record for the most viewed lyric video ever on YouTube with "Closer," which currently has 1.2 billion views and is the only lyric video to have surpassed the 1 billion mark. "Something Just Like This" debuted at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart based on only two days of performance. The song will be featured on The Chainsmokers' much anticipated debut album, Memories…Do Not Open. link

Was the theme song for the March madness promos. Yep! Saw it! The date for Chainsmokers on SNL will be April 8th: "Next stop on The Chainsmokers' dizzying rise to pop stardom? An upcoming performance on Saturday Night Live this Saturday, April 8. The duo joins host Louis C. K., their self-affirmed “favorite comedian.” A series of tweets confirmed the news and details The Chainsmokers' plans to perform all new material from their upcoming album Memories: Do Not Open. Check the tweets below for more details, and catch SNL on NBC at 11:30 EST." www.billboard.com/articles/news/dance/7720914/the-chainsmokers-snl-louis-c-kI checked and SJLT *is* included on their new album. (Seems to be on both their album and on Kaleidoscope.) So, maybe! (Fingers crossed!)

Well, SNL is certainly ramping things up for ratings, they are going live in all timezones (though maybe not for the Louis CK show, Leann, correct me if I'm wrong), and Chris is a friend of the show, they've put him in sketches and they have NEVER made fun of him or done an impression of him. I think **crosses fingers** he is the Chainsmokers' guest singer, like Lorde was a couple of seasons ago for Disclosure.
