X&Y

The X&Y is the responsible for me being a big Coldplay fan. Not too much for the album, although it has one of my favorite songs and others that I really love. But is was on the X&Y when they played and recorded the "How We Saw The World" concert. Them I saw this concert on my Tv when I was changing channels. Viva La Vida was already launched. And I saw this concert because at that time I was in love with a girl who loved Coldplay and U2. So I give a chance to see the reason behind her passion about this bands. And when the concert was over, I became a fan! I run to the next closest store to buy as many albuns as possible and began with Parachutes. I end up not being with the Girl, and when I look back I know it was the best thing for me and for her. But she gave Coldplay and I'm very grateful for this LOL and now we are only good friends

Wow--nine years? I remember, I went out at lunchtime at my job that day and bought two copies. My husband has since stolen one, and it's the only CP album he listens to, he likes the bombastic songs.

I remember the first song I heard was Fix You on a movie trailer back in '06, and didn't realize what it was or who made it until I heard it again in full like 3 years later after hearing Speed of Sound for the first time. It's probably my 3rd or 4th favorite album, Ghost Stories and ROB taking the lead of course.

This must be very old I know, but I just adore this review I just found of X & Y, it sums it all up perfectly.
After Radiohead stubbornly refused to accept the mantle of "world's biggest and most important rock band" by releasing the willfully strange rocktronica fusion Kid A in 2000, Coldplay stepped up to the plate with their debut, Parachutes. Tasteful, earnest, introspective, anthemic, and grounded in guitars, the British quartet was everything Radiohead weren't but what the public wanted them to be, and benefited from the Oxford quintet's decision to abandon rock stardom for arcane art rock. Parachutes became a transatlantic hit and 2002's sequel, A Rush of Blood to the Head, consolidated their success by being bigger and better than Parachutes, positioning Coldplay to not be just the new Radiohead, but the new U2: a band that belongs to the world but fans believe that the music is for them alone. To that end, Coldplay's third album, X&Y -- slightly delayed so it follows Rush of Blood by nearly three years, but that's no longer than the time separating OK Computer and Kid A, or The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree -- is designed to be the record that elevates Coldplay to the major leagues, where they are at once the biggest and most important band in the world. It's deliberate and sleek, cinematic and pristine, hip enough to sample Kraftwerk and blend in fashionable retro-'80s post-punk allusions without altering the band's core. Indeed, X&Y is hardly a bold step forward, but rather a consolidation of Coldplay's strengths, particularly their skill at crafting surging, widescreen epics. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Wow, that's a great review of X&Y. I know a lot of people, fans included, and the band don't rate this album, but I personally love it. To me it's got everything from ballads to sweeping rock songs. Jonny's guitar on White Shadows is amazing, and there is Low, which is one of my favourite songs ever.

I think X&Y is going to be my next CD to listen to all the way through. Right now I'm just kind of listening to songs randomly, but waiting til just the right day when I really need something special to listen to a CD all the way through in order. (*Sigh* Gotta space them out, there's only six. Write faster guys!!!)

Amazing. It's kind of great to listen to them all afresh. But worry not, you won't grow tired of them. At least not in my experience

I was scared that I'd eat up Ghost Stories so quickly that I'd get bored with it and want even more new stuff and would have to wait 2-3 years for it. But I'm still liking it and I realized I'm a lot more patient than I thought I would have been. And might I suggest "Things I Don't Understand" when you search for the B-sides of the X&Y era, if you haven't heard it yet. It's one of my favorites from that time. It's almost like a White Shadows 2.0 for me.
