I vaguely remember that and I think it's official...

Oh written by Chris, I didn't reflect on that. Strange, if they said it was by Chris. Do the others read music?

Are you sure it's from Chris? He can't read music... Interesting. I thought he couldn't read music either, so it would follow that he couldn't write it either. But it is still pretty cool regardless.

Okay, a bit later, but I promissed to come back to this. The Oracle writes this about it:
February 10, 2014 / submitted by Deba, Germany
Q. Dear Oracle,
I read somewhere that Chris doesn't know how to read or write music. Isn't that a little risky when he is performing live and he suddenly forgets how to play a part of the song?
THE ORACLE REPLIES >
Not at all risky. If he forgets, he forgets - bands don't play from sheet music anyway so it wouldn't really make any difference. It's rare to have those moments as the tours are planned and rehearsed in advance. There may be the odd fluffed lyric but if any last minute changes are made to the set list, the band use time at sound checks to practice.
That said, I have seen them start to play something random and off-piste that Chris will admit he has forgotten how to play. They'd either ditch it or get it ready for the next performance.

Q. Just a quick question.
Do Coldplay actually pen their own music to paper during the writing process and then refine it or, do they have recordings of songs in various stages and put them down on paper after the music is refined?
Or is it neither or both??
Many thanks!
THE ORACLE REPLIES >
Chris writes the lyrics down and maybe notes for chords and whatnot but as he can't read music, he can't write it either.

Well, I did remember it because I thought is was a very interesting thing: one of worlds best songwriters can't read/write music. The whole proces of getting to a good song is a lot more interesting with that knownledge.
