The first book is about World War I, the second World War II, and the last one is about the Cold War. Very good read, not high literature like the Goldfinch, but no less compelling.
I also loved the Millennium Trilogy as someone already mentioned.
I'm about to start a new one by an Italian author, Elena Ferrante, called the "Neapolitan Novels" and the first one is called My Brilliant Friend. I read very good reviews, but I'll let you know if I like it.
Didn't know about this thread, I LOVE books!

Thanks for the recommendations. I went to see the movie Mortal Instruments because I was interested in this series. Love when there is plenty of pages of world building and you follow the same characters going on their journey with them. Because this was a series with plenty of books, I really wanted to get into it but I just couldn't, So glad you enjoyed it. Did you like the movie? >>> The Ken Follet series is up my alley, I'm kind of obsessed with WWII, so this series is a must get. September is treat to myself month. Going to Barnes and Noble and find my reads for the next couple of months.
