Even if it's going to be their last album, they still have a lot of songs waiting to be released, I think. I am thinking about a Coldplay - The demo tapes 10 CD box set (LOL). But seriously, Coldplay must have recorded a couple of songs that didn't make it to the final albums. I think there is a lot of material left. Anyway, Chris describes himself as being a person who couldn not live without composing music. So why not release it, earn money and make fans happy? Don't take it all too serious.

He always says things like this Ashley. Don't worry. His words were (as they often are) misleading, because after he said something like, it could be the last he said, not that it will be the last Coldplay record. Just the end of something. (sorry I am not quoting, just remembering).
Like Dustin says, Chris cannot live without music, he uses it as therapy. So I very much doubt it will be the end. But they could take a break. Not too long I hope! We need them! They are all still young. What on earth would they all do without one another anyway.

Exactly, just the thought of Chris and the rest of the band not making music makes me laugh. He says every album is their last, and the papers now eat it up. I kind of wish he wouldn't say stuff like that, because when it gets reported, we get yet another chance for idiots on the web to comment, "good! I hate Coldplay anyway!"

Exactly kitty. He does do it a lot, even though he did say this time that it didn't mean there wouldn't be something else down the road, the press picks up what it wants to. I will admit, though, that I wish he'd just stop saying it too because even though I know he has said it before, it still gives my stomach a lurch every time anyway.
Here are a couple of Oracle references to it over the past couple of years:
submitted by Marco, United States of America Q. Dear Oracle, recently I've been seeing posts in twitter where Chris (in an interview) says: "I've always known we needed to make 7 albums... After that, I don't know." To us, Coldplay fans, that was very shocking and for most, saddening...Does that mean the ending of Coldplay?
THE ORACLE REPLIES: No. Don't take it too literally. The other day (as you mentioned), Chris said "We are now recording LP7, LP's 1-7 will be like a series. I don't know what will happen after LP7". That's all he is saying; nothing more sinister. LP7 isn't done yet so why would they be thinking beyond that right now? If you've heard Chris talk about albums before you will know that he once said the first three albums felt like a trilogy. Things change as time goes along so there's no need for anyone to be sad.
August 15, 2011 / submitted by Sam, United Kingdom Q. Dear Oracle, I read on the Daily Mirror and NME that Chris Martin is saying that Mylo Xyloto may be the last album for the band and this time he means it. Why is this so? As a big fan of Coldplay I am very sad about this. Since you know Chris and the rest of the boys, do you think that it is likely that the band splits up at this point of its career? I wish that you could pick up my question and reply to it!! Thanks! Sam
THE ORACLE REPLIES: I haven't read the article but I would draw your attention to the word "may". What Chris said or meant - whether taken out of context or not - is familiar to many. Anyone who has been a fan for a very long time will know that this kind of quote is not uncommon when an album is completed. Chris has said this kind of thing before, ooh at least 3 times I'd say. Even if a band intend to be together forever, not one single person in the world could possibly know when or if an album is the last one until song ideas are conceived, written, recorded and deemed good enough. That's not to say that Mylo Xyloto* will be their last album but at this moment in time it is the only album that we're all thinking about. Let's not rush the future or try to see into it, let's enjoy the present - after all, it is a gift. *You have no idea how great it is to finally be able to say the name of the album!

He keeps saying that over and over again. It sounds a bit as if he is trying to make himself important Like as if everyone should buy their next (last) record and beg Coldplay to go on with making music Is that what you want, Chris? It might come across as arrogant, so I agree that it would be better just to be quiet about that topic.

Big sigh of relief...........all has been clarified (by Will I think) in some interview the past few days........probably has been posted on one of the threads. I think "in the moment" Chris does feel that way, that the current album is the last, because when he's done he feels exhausted and drained. Good thing for us he gets over it ...... LOL !!!

Yep, THIS article in the NRJ Awards thread had this excerpt: The end of Coldplay?
The bad news of the week: the group is today worship in the international music scene release a new album but it will be the last! The announcement of a bombshell!
Fortunately, the band members just deny the information on NRJ. Coldplay puts the record straight and explain that Chris Martin had just wanted to say that it was the end of a series, a cycle, and they hope to continue to record full albums.

Rik Simpson started a blog: So, we're breaking soon for Xmas after an extremely busy year; One album finished ("Ghost Stories") A concert film made ("Ghost Stories Live 2014") at Sony Studios in LA Lots of theatre shows (which were a nice break from the usual stadium massiveness) We also recently made a start on LP7 (currently called "A Head Full Of Dreams"). Oh, and as if that was not enough my wife and I had our first child, Stella Adi Rae, in June. She's awesome, without doubt my best production to date!! I'm looking forward to this break (and maybe finally getting some sleep) but also looking forward to whatever 2015 may bring, I have a feeling it'll be epic. Have a great Xmas everyone!! Interesting for sure...
I have got a bad feeling this guy is going to ruin the album soundwise though. He talks so much s**t...

So he created the sound for GS and MX too? Good god... Maybe he put some more effort into his work back in 2008...
