if this is true (seems credible) then it is awesome. so if magic is the first single, they will have a press release with info and maybe even some info on lp6. but that means midnight is just a buzz song. so i think it won't even be on the album. makes sense since you can't even buy it anywhere. but a little sad since it is a great song. the thing is, if it doesn't end up in the album, maybe the album won't be as experimental as some of are hoping for, just off the vibe of midnight..

This is a bit of a stretch and I cannot provide any proof...but someone in the Coldplay subreddit just posted that someone at ColdplayCorner met Chris Martin outside the Bakery today and he confirmed that "Magic" will be released Monday!
The user in the subreddit, heylu, said that they'll post proof soon. Proof may already be on ColdplayCorner, but I don't speak French well enough to check it out.

Call me crazy - but still I am bit skeptical. They are still on contract with a record label. Therefore, it seems unlikely they will be releasing anything else without a previous announcement. They already did it with Midnight, don't believe they will be able to do it again (at least for this era).
Usually, some members of the press, etc - get to hear the song/album before release and help build up the hype.

Usually, some members of the press, etc - get to hear the song/album before release and help build up the hype. don't forget the position that coldplay is in. they certainly have enough clout to negotiate these things with their record company. and it's in the best interests of their record company to keep coldplay happy. just because of chris' usual humble talk, don't underestimate their position. |

Typically record contracts are for just that, records. Coldplay's contract is for a certain amount of records to be released under Parlophone and it won't prevent them from releasing a new song and then a single within the same week. For all we know the label is hyped about the plan if they didn't create it themselves. Coldplay are the masters of tease and surprise. They've proven themselves trustworthy to their label with album sales time and time again. I don't see why would Parlophone would prevent them from releasing "Magic" on Monday. Personally, I think it's better to release it sooner and than later while "Midnight" still has a media wave to ride on. |

Think about it, Atlantic records wouldn't have to hype up new Coldplay material even if it was or was not previously announced. They could still make a lot of money off it. However you do raise some good points. |
