I just... I liked where they were going at first with it, to be honest. Then it kinda pooped out without going anywhere special or interesting. Especially with that horrible over-reliance on repeating certain words, DID YOU NOT LEARN? To use a common analogy on this forum I think the balls just strapped on some jetpacks, seperated themselves from the body and zoomed straight outta here. I don't know if I'll get used to it, I mean I did manage to appreciate Princess of China for what it was after 3 years, though this dangerously teeters on the edge of mediocrity which usually ends up being an instant 'nope'. I just feel a little let down here. Hold me. It'll be okay, it's just a little disappointing They cant be ballsy with all their songs. You gotta realize this is their job which means this is their income. If they completely went midnight with all their new songs they would lose almost half their fans which their simply not going to do. Be glad how far they went and im sure theres at least one other song on the album that will be like midnight.  >Implying Coldplay is some little indie band that is low on income. ETA: Interestingly, note how nobody has voted that they hate it yet. After giving it a few listens I can see past the vocals to the actual music underneath including the aforementioned 'glittering guitar' which is nice. I can't notice the bass though, wonder if that's having untrained ears. being hard of hearing, or just playing it on my laptop to be blamed (though it is a lappy with okay speaks :S) |

The one thing I am going to say is that I've been seeing numerous comments on a lot of sites saying things like why did Chris even write this anyway a sixth grader could've done better. Maybe it wasn't Chris that wrote it. Anyway I really like the song |

It's unique in a way, it doesn't have a chorus but it's so damn catchy

The more and more I listen, the harder it is to stop. I love the ending with the guitar riff in the background, the piano, the synth. It sounds so magical, no pun intended. I actually extended the ending and have had it on loop! At first listen, it was really good, but it didn't give me that "Oh my God" feeling. But after a few listens, I can honestly say I got goosebumps. The lyrics may be simple, and may even be a bit cheesy, but I think they fit the song very well. Just think of a significant other that you have feelings for while listening to Magic. That's what gave me goosebumps. |

I was just saying their not going to get completely off the mainstream sound because they would lose a lot of people. They got plenty of money, but it is their job. If someone told you you could paint a painting the way it has been and make 100,000 or try something else and only make 50,000, most people would pick the 100,000 regardless of weather they have a low income or not. I wasn't trying to attack you cobalt, I merely was saying to not expect everything to be like Midnight. I'm not here to argue with people though so I'm sorry if you thought I was trying to argue with you.  |

Side note: The part at 3:03 makes me think of a variation of the Clocks riff with some X&Y sound mixed in. Just my two cents. Edit: I went back and listened to the X&Y songs it made me think of and the second half of A Message seemed fitting. |

The only thing I'd change about the song is extend the bridge, maybe double it in length (I can't get enough of it). Let the ending vocals play out, then repeat the build up and the bridge, then let it fade out.

I still think that the lyrics are stupid but thank god i'm italian so i can shut that part of my brain that understands english and concentrate on the music. The production is perfect, I mean i can hear everything and it feels so great! The part i prefer is from 4:00 towards the end, i love the guitar in it i wish you could hear it more and I'm afraid they are going to cut it when playing it on the radio, but i don't care.

I just think it's a bit odd to pull the income card when discussing a big band. I would hope they have enough integrity to not automatically go the former route, which they have somewhat shown by making this song more low-key instead of having what would have been a very easy bombastic finish. |

So I finally gave it a 3. The lyrics are terrible even by Coldplay standards and as always I hate the electronic drum. Jonny just manages to save the song!
Midnight was so brilliant it raised my expectations, but after this I just hope the album doesn't turn out to be a disappointment like MX.
Depeche Mode and M83 etc manage to make some incredible electronic music and you can see Coldplay is trying to pull a 2nd Law here but this is just lazy!
