That's cool! Coincidentally, the school is at 42 Longbrook Lane. AND at 1:17 in the video, there is Martins Lane. Just saying...

So....I'm watching America's Got Talent this season, and I'm thinking that for sure when they get to the segments with the magicians, one of them will do a performance to Magic. Is it silly that I'm excited for that....

Pinkpop one is that they really want Coldplay there and are doing everything to get them. I think it started with this: For now, I still stay cool. Oh I hadn't seen this! Probably doesn't mean anything because it was posted by De Telegraaf which is like the Dutch Daily Mail. But I guess the AD is slightly more reliable... This is what happened last time at Pinkpop: (It should skip to 43.35.)

It's the very first time that I am seeing this video. I didn't know that a live recording of it existed. Watching the video made me feel a bit sad, to be honest.... THIS is true live music. Why aren't they as good as they were back then anymore? :S what happened? They were Incredible live musicians and now they are doing collaborations with Avicii and using almost complete backing tracks on tour. It's hard to follow Chris' idea of "improving" musically. I don't mind if they are mainstream as long as the music is good but it would be a dream come true if they went back to their roots.

i feel like changing the sound to fit with the times have to a certain extent helped coldplay keep their popularity. but their current production trickery can ruin songs, specially in the last 2 lps. even with one of the best producers on board, there were some issues in lp6. having said that, i don't think going back to the previous sound (say parachutes) for a whole album would work that well. they are not the same people anymore and their priorities seem to have changed. but, oceans is one of my favorites in GS.

It's important for a band to change and to improve. Yeah. But does that mean that they should rely on backing tracks so much? They were great live performers and I don't think anybody would be worried if the live version differed from the studio recording. It's easier to play with backing tracks than to rearrange a song for playing it live. ASFOS or VLV could have been arranged quite nicely, I think. If their songs weren't that good, I wouldn't bother listening to crappy produced songs (like MX and some GS songs too) or live performances that are not quite live. They use backing tracks all the time even if there is no reason (songs like Always in my head, O, Paradise, Clocks, etc.) and that development makes me feel a bit upset :(

yeah i partly agree. i was watching the VLV/ASFOS performance on that japanese tv this week and there were quite a lot of cuts to the band just hanging around without playing instruments when there were a lot of sounds going on. also jonny and guy didn't have their pedal boards. made me wonder whether they were miming. anyway, chris not playing in a lot of songs when he actually can also bothers me. they really should try to capture the raw sound again. that would be amazing.
but using backing tracks can elevate the song when used right too. i can be ok with limited use of backing tracks, but coldplay are over-using it now, the worst case possibly being ASFOS.

I do tend to agree with you to an extent. However they did put on some of the BEST shows I have ever seen during the MX tour. No actually THE BEST.. ever. I have seen them playing with no backing track, just Chris and Jonny, one piano one guitar and they were AMAZING! I've seen them at all stages of the spectrum, from the Little Noises gig, to the Malieveld and places in between. Each time they are incredible, each time they give their all! What makes it so is their energy! The huge woosh you get seeing them live. They love playing live and it shows. They COULD step it back, go back to just piano, guitar, bass and drums and I do not doubt for one second that they would still be fantastic. But they have all this technology available to them. What they do is pretty amazing, synching it all live, don't you think? Technology has moved on. They are moving with the times. If they still played the same things and the same way they did in 2002, then I don't think they would have as many fans, be as popular. Yes we would still love them, but they would also be criticised for it. It's music. It's entertainment, playing live is not high art, it's not the type of thing people say.. "Hmmmm" to.. and cock their eyebrows, or it shouldn't be. What it should be is PURE fun, excitement, thrill and leaving your mundane behind for an hour, getting into it, losing yourself and having the time of your life. In my opinion they are doing that! They are doing it well and they enjoy it. Just my opinion.

My alarm woke me up this morning--the first thing I got to hear on the radio today was:
"You're a skyyyyy full of stars!"
Good start!

Has this been posted? "The Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup Friday night, defeating the New York Rangers 4 games to 1, for their second National Hockey League championship in three years. So I was surprised that when the Cup was brought on to the ice Friday night, it got some unusual musical accompaniment: The instrumental bridge of the Coldplay song “Fix You.” See it here, starting at the 5:30 mark:" link
