This is high resolution surround sound audio (24 BIT 96 KHZ). It's interesting as the sound quality should be significantly better than on CD (16 BIT 44.1 KHZ) and that's probably very close to what the four guys actually recorded in the studio. It's a nice thing to have, although I don't own the equipment (yet). Depending on how the 5.1 mastering has been realised, it could be that you can hear Chris' vocals acapella on one of the tracks (or speakers). One could extract that vocals track and make acapella or instrumental versions of all the AHFOD songs then. I might get it when it is available for purchase in the shops.

^ karaoke night!! Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge or equipment to enjoy such a thing, but I look up to sound nerds and am very happy they get a treat too.

So.... what is blu-ray audio? Do you have to buy a blu-ray audio player? Or will my desktop computer play the disc like it plays my CD's?

Does this help at all? I hope so because I can't explain it. I am excited, however, to hear it!

What you need is a BluRay player or a BluRay drive to play the BluRay disc. It's just the same as with video BluRay discs. However, 5.1 sound only makes sense if you can listen to it through a surround sound audio system (which means 5 speakers and a subwoofer)
Just to give you an impression, here is an Abba live performance that was recorded onto multitrack tapes. Someone extracted the vocal track from the 5.1 audio.
ORIGINAL
Vocal track (singing starts at 0:28)

Ookkkay... I may get this, just for my collection, but honestly not sure. I do have a bluray player, well my husband does on his playstation, but we have a surround BAR, not a true surround sound.. so.. it might not work. But I hope someone does isolate the vocals on it though.. that would be awesome!

LOL it sounds like we'll all have to pool our money for one Blu-Ray system and share it
