I thought it would be nice to have a place to post our concert reviews, past and present. Here are three of mine which bring back very happy memories.
I dug them out of the Coldplaying archives. I had thought they were lost for good. But I am posting them here so that I don't lose them again.
Little Noise Sessions - November 24th 2011
Chris and Jonny came on, holding hands and looking totally drop dead gorgeous, resplendent in matching waistcoats and black shirts, Jonny in jeans with a very fetching pork pie hat with white band round it, and Chris wearing a pocket watch and chain and black trousers tucked into boots. Both men looked very dapper.
They launched into the first song, Yellow, and the gig REALLY began. There is full video of the concert so I won't review the entire thing, but there are some hilarious moments, Chris and the tambourine lady, for one! Hysterical, why would you bring a tambourine to a gig? Chris handled it very well, but it was a bit bonkers.
Then there was the bit where Chris took off his waistcoat and tie amid catcalls and cheering for him to do more! He said something along the lines of if he and Jonny had bodies like a boy band, they'd be bigger than Busted or McFly! Slightly mad when you consider the place was packed with Coldplay fans.
We all sang, clapped our little booties off in the front row, I can't speak for anyone else, but I loved it all! Paradise for me was a highlight. Chris asked us all to sing the second Para part, after he did the first, and it was great fun. So now we can now all put backing singers for Coldplay onto our Cv's and resumes.
The set went far far too fast, and finally they were doing their, 'have you got time for just one more song'... which also went too fast. Chris said, that they would be going off in a moment to change their sweaty clothes, and come back IF we wanted an encore, or not and we could all go home if we liked. AS IF.
The lights went down and the Viva chant started, and very quickly they came back on, Chris went to his piano, Jonny his guitar, then Chris said..Oh I've fucked up again, we were supposed to come back on from the other side, I've forgotten my guitar, can you all just pretend we didn't and we'll go off and come back on again! Which is what they did. Amid slight confusion and more Viva chanting.. then they came back and this time Chris had his guitar. He went over to his mic stand, and said something like Jonny we are too far apart. So he dragged his mic stand over to Jonny's side of the stage, which happened to be immediately in front of me! For this they performed Shiver. Amazing.
Finally they did fix you, which was lovely, but over far far too quickly. Then they were off the stage and gone. Jo Willey came back on again to thank us all for coming, and the evening was over.
Emirates Stadium - 2nd June 2012
AWESOME AWESOME gig... I think it has to be one of the best I have EVER been to.. EVER.
Highlights were Clocks, Warning Sign, in the pouring rain.. Chris lit up from behind, playing the outrow.. whilst the rest of the band went back to the main stage.. Fix you. Chris came out onto the walkway level with us...and WE sang it to him! Incredible..
It rained like you wouldn't believe.. we jumped, we sang, we flashed... we enjoyed ourselves.. It was my son's 14th Birthday yesterday.. he had such a good time.. we met some lovely lovely people in the queue.. we painted ourselves with flourescent paint.. a real social event!
Some amazing moments, Chris putting his arm around Guy and both smiling like loonies, Guy and Jonny playing together and grinning all the time... Chris was on fire.. jumping, running, singing his heart out.. as did we.
The tube was a NIGHTMARE Getting home though.. bad planning London. They shut two stations! We must have walked about four miles in the pouring rain.. and after having been up since 4am the previous morning! Not nice. We got home about 2am..
We did get second row.. after being there since 7.. Me, my husband, my son, and ALL of our section got held up by a blind lady and her son being allowed in first. Which is FINE, but they let the other queues in first, so we missed getting front completely....surely health and safety says let them in BEFORE the rest of the other queues?!!
Someone, I hope NOT a Coldplayer, pushed to the front of our queue too.. We told him off and eventually got the security guys involved.. and he got moved, but why would you do that??
But all in all an amazing gig. Would I do it all again today? Well, maybe not today, my ears hurt after the VERY VERY VERY loud earhurting bass of the support acts! My legs ache after my walk.. I am tired, my throat is sore and I am probably far too old to do this at all.. But heck I'd go Monday if the opportunity arose!! LOL...
Is there any other band in the entire world who can make you feel like this??
Malieveld, Holland - 6th Sept 2012
Oh my the gig. Words fail me. Front row the whole time, we all managed to squeeze in.. somehow, and I cannot thank Imke and her mum enough for letting us. You guys rock ! So so much. I love you.
Highlights, include Ellen and I holding her banner up, which said AMSTERDAM and at the end of In my place, Chris, walking back up the ramp, turned, noticed us, and WINKED. I had to hold Ellen up! Her legs gave way! Oh what could be better!!
The rest of the gig was amazing! Confetti, darkness, xylobands, singing, singing, so so much, screaming! Apparently, as evidenced by any videos I took, I can’t remember, but it seemed I screamed my head off all night.. My voice is still just only coming back. The atmosphere was ELECTRIC.
I looked up at the start to see fireworks, lasers, the huge screens showing the MX rings, flashing, the place lifted off. The noise, the bass thumping through us, the barriers we were stood on BOUNCING as every single person in the front row JUMPED in time to the songs! Amazing.. amazing. If the place had a roof it would have come off. The atmosphere was just electric. I have never in my life been a part of such a wonderful thing. London was good, London was fabulous, but this was better.
The weather was perfect, the wind dropped, and we had the absolutely best gig in the world. It seemed to me, hanging onto my bit of barrier like it was a lifeline, that time stopped whilst this perfect music, perfect place exploded around me.
Other highlights include the end of Viva, filming it on Ellen’s camera for her. I managed to capture some amazing blue eyes, which seemed to be staring STRAIGHT at me!
All too soon though we were down to the C stage, and then back for Clocks. Fix you was amazing, but Chris messed up the beginning. Well you have to have ONE screw up don't you or it's not a real Coldplay gig!
Then it was Every tear drop.. and the gig was over. So sad that it had to finish. But what an amazing amazing gig. The best EVER.
