Yeah, I remember when Magic came out I was very disappointed with the lyrics, but a few weeks later the news broke Chris and Gwyneth had separated and I instantly forgave him. During Viva he put himself in someone else's shoes to write from a different perspective, resulting in interesting lyrics. For Ghost Stories he wrote about himself and didn't sit down to think about artistic ways to wrap his feelings in. Most people wouldn't, instead they say simple things like 'this hurts/I want you back/don't leave me/I miss you/I love you'. It's a universal thing to go through so it fits that he talks in phrases that sound familiar. So although I still wish he had sat himself down and wrote something that sounds more mature, I'm OK with it.
That said, next album, better lyrics please.

I think GS is less about lyrics and more about the feeling to be honest. Of course, I can't get inside of his head and know what he's thinking, but I personally just feel that maybe it was a way to get some of this off of his chest rather than try to make it lyrically deep. I have no idea, of course, but maybe ? I will say that, from what I can understand because there is a line or two that I'm not sure about, I'm mesmerized by the lyrics to 'Ghost Story.' That song....gives me chills.
I agree with a lot of this...............I think Chris needed to let out all his emotions regarding his "love" for Gwyneth, be it together/separated/divorced/on-going, it's all there.....yet in a gentle way, no accusations, no finger-pointing............ However - in the song "Ghost Story" I get the distinct feeling we're hearing some of the very raw and human emotions that this whole album sort of covered up............( maybe we'll never know what brought them to this phase of their lives, probably best if we don't ) but I think this song lets him say just how hurt, angry, and frustrated he was at times. To my ears, this song is the musical masterpiece of the album.

on ghost story, i agree. if such emotions were addressed in the album, it would have been a more interesting album to the listener. but i guess that's not what the album is about. it is basically a declaration of love. and living the high profile lives that they do, it would be difficult to pour chris' heart out unfiltered. also you get the feeling chris is not that type of person to share obviously personal issues and hurt someone. he is a very private, kind person after all.

I think the lyrics were more simple because when you are that sad you are more empty than anything else. But I did love the interesting lyrics.

I'm hoping LP7 feels more "organic" and "adventurous". Something like Viva. When Life Of Technicolor comes in, you feel like you're going on an adventure. I personally haven't felt that with any other Coldplay record. Maybe more songs like Cemeteries Of London and Lost. They have this great atmospheric vibe to them. Even though that's what Viva was about, they could do it again.

I have a gut feeling this is what it will sound like. All Your Friends and Ghost Story seemed like tip offs to me, I think LP7 will go in the same direction.

Lol. Chris wears new shirts over and over. Then he'll get a new one. And same thing. I do love that about him. It's so cute. Well to me anyway.

I can't wait to see if Chris' story about receiving an outfit in the mail for him to wear at the iHeart festival is true. Haha
