Another horrible attack, this time in Turkey. 35 innocent people gunned down in a nightclub doing nothing but being happy. I can't wrap my brain around this killing of innocent people, something has got to be done. It is so upsetting and heinous and maddening and senseless. Keeping everyone in Turkey in my thoughts and prayers.

As if this year wasn't bad enough, it ends like this. Praying for better days in 2017.

So this guy that shot up the airport yesterday has been telling people he's been having hallucinations and hearing voices in his head for months... he CLEARLY has paranoid schizophrenia, but obviously didn't get the help he needed in time to stop him from acting out. We are not doing enough to to diagnose and treat people with mental illness in this country!!!
IMHO, we are being way too politically correct in not being able to come out and theorize that people with this disorder might have a tendency to commit violent crimes. No one wants to insult the rest of the people with schizophrenia who AREN'T committing crimes, and that is not helping anyone!

He went to the FBI in Alaska as well and told them he was hearing voices. Another cry for help that was ignored. I realize what a daunting and incredible task it would be to find those that need help, but if someone comes to you and asks for help with mental illness and who is also ex military who has seen overseas action and has experience with weapons, you probably should take it seriously! That's another subject too. We do not take care of our ex military the way we should. There is a lot of PTSD out there on the street. Again, innocent people dead. It just boggles the mind.

Yeah he was seeing a therapist. But, I don't think therapists are given the tools they need these days to get up and say, HEY, this person is dangerous and needs way more help than what I can give. Please call in the authorities and get this person off the street, immediately.
Anyone that has any type of delusions that involve violence needs to be in an institutional setting immediately. That's not just to help society, it's to help them and their families too. If he said he was having delusions involving ISIS, those are violent delusions and that's serious.

I don't know what the answer is, but we've swung too far in the other direction. Back in the 60's we were institutionalizing too many people, but now, not enough. People can't get the help they need if they're just left to fend for themselves.

Its the same in the UK as well, many many times we hear about people being killed by someone who has been let down by the Health service because of budget cuts mostly. We used to have 'Mental Hospitals', I hate that term...but they were replaced by 'Care in the Community' but so many slip through the net, stop taking their meds etc because they're not monitered properly. The excuse is always put down to money, but how do you explain that to someone who has lost a family member, Governments need to get their priorities right, look after the most vunerable in our societies and you might just protect the innocents in all of this

Agree with all of you! Also here we go again with we need stricter gun laws! How was he allowed to have that gun! There has to be stricter policies also on guns being allowed through baggage check. Ugh sorry I despise guns!
