Prince William’s Favorite Bands are Coldplay and Linkin Park
by Josh Duboff
Prince William had a busy schedule Wednesday, as he visited a high school in East Yorkshire (where he announced an award for students on behalf of one of his charities) and then headed across town to West Yorkshire, where he stopped by Bradford Foyer, a center for homeless youth.
William declined a chance to play with a student samba band, but told the students, “I used to play the piano, trumpet, and drums when I was your age, but I couldn’t read music. There’s only so much you can remember from the top of your head.” Alas, this does not bode well for our hopes that William and Kate would someday release a single as a pop duo (Kate on vocals, William on instrumentals—with a D.J. K. Mid interlude). William was asked by one of the students what his favorite bands were now, and he responded, “I really like Coldplay, Linkin Park.” Now, Coldplay is exactly what we’d expect him to say, as they fall in the dead center of the Dad Rock category, but . . . Linkin Park?!? We would have guessed a Michael Bublé, a John Legend, maybe a John Mayer or Jack Johnson curveball. But no! William apparently has a taste for the nu metal. (We imagine Kate rolling her eyes when she hears, like, “Numb” coming from the basement.)
Also, now that we know William enjoys Chris Martin and company’s oeuvre, we wonder whether William and Kate (we’re just going to assume Kate and Gwyneth have met and trade e-mails once a month) can’t orchestrate a rom-com-style rekindling of the flames between Chris and Gwyneth, who recently were seen dining together in Los Angeles. William can tell Chris he wants a private concert at Buckingham Palace. But when Chris arrives, he’ll find an empty palace filled with candles and champagne, and Gwyneth will emerge from the balcony (Kate will have told Gwyneth to meet her there for a . . . fancy meditation retreat). And then, once the duke and duchess have practically mandated it, they’d have no choice but to get back together.
