Chris Martin slams Sunrise for Coldplay’s ‘sh*t’ performance but band ‘insisted on’ empty studio
COLDPLAY frontman Chris Martin’s public condemnation of the bands’ treatment by Seven’s Sunrise might be unwarranted, after all.
The rocker slammed the network for its lacklustre reception of the band when they fronted the studio for a prerecorded segment last week. The Sunday Telegraph reported that Martin told a packed out crowd at Sydney’s Fox Studios on Friday night: “We filmed for a show called Sunrise today, and there was no one there. We were in a small room and frankly we were sh*t because of it.”
Adding fuel to the breakfast TV fire, the supergroup had just finished filming three songs for rival network Nine’s The Voice when the British superstar made the onstage sledge.
But a Channel 7 insider has revealed the band’s management actually “insisted on the closed set” for their prerecorded performance and banned any audience for their recording.
“There was nobody in the studio at all except for the crew,” the source told news.com.au, adding: “We had suggested bigger venues other than Martin Place, but they wanted to do it in our studio.”
The insider added that producers also pitched other dates for Coldplay’s Sunrise appearance as co-hosts Samantha Armytage and David Koch were in New Zealand at the time and wouldn’t be able to conduct the interview, but they wouldn’t budge. “We’re not sure why, that’s what we were told,” the insider said.
Sunrise Executive Producer Michael Pell said the network “loves” Coldplay and has a proud history with them.
“They did a massive outdoor concert on the steps of the Opera House for us about a year and a half ago, with a thousand viewers in that audience.
“It was a throwaway line and there are no hard feelings,” he said.
Martin also thanked the crowd for being “f***ing brilliant for a TV audience” and was reportedly met with cheers from the Nine programming and publicity teams seated in the wings. Viewers might get to witness the remark when the segment airs tonight during the first round of live finals.
Coldplay prerecorded three songs for Sunrise, which will all be played on the show tomorrow morning, so viewers will be able to determine for themselves whether the band really was “sh*t” as a result of the confined space.

Honestly do they not even realise that Chris was slamming their OWN performance and not blaming anyone else! Seriously.. he can't open his mouth can he?
