I just... I liked where they were going at first with it, to be honest. Then it kinda pooped out without going anywhere special or interesting. Especially with that horrible over-reliance on repeating certain words, DID YOU NOT LEARN? To use a common analogy on this forum I think the balls just strapped on some jetpacks, seperated themselves from the body and zoomed straight outta here. I don't know if I'll get used to it, I mean I did manage to appreciate Princess of China for what it was after 3 years, though this dangerously teeters on the edge of mediocrity which usually ends up being an instant 'nope'. I just feel a little let down here. Hold me. It'll be okay, it's just a little disappointing They cant be ballsy with all their songs. You gotta realize this is their job which means this is their income. If they completely went midnight with all their new songs they would lose almost half their fans which their simply not going to do. Be glad how far they went and im sure theres at least one other song on the album that will be like midnight.

Dont get me wrong Im happy to get more songs but I hate buying physical cd's cause the audio isnt as good as digital. I would have thought the bonus would be on itunes if anything. Target must have paid ALOT of money lol Actually, the lossless audio on the CD is better quality than the mp3 or aac file you'll download from iTunes. The difference is negligible, but if you were to look at a spectrogram of each the CD quality is better because the files are closer to the quality and size of FLAC.

Its is stripped back. I like it. It's not that bad. Will have it on repeat today.
Edit: the last minute of it reminds me of Moses

I agree that they don't have to write songs that are pigeon holed into the same category. I'm a bit older than Chris and think it's very lovely and simple and catchy and sweet, and it's nice to hear songs like that as well. It gives me a really nice feeling inside, and I love it alongside Midnight because they are so different, and I find that very cool. They are still a young band.

So I missed everything (long story) but for me Magic is great. It is not what I expected, but it is refreshing and cool. And I agree with previous statements that not all of their songs can be ballsy ( ), but as far as radio-friendly goes, I'm pleased with where this stands.

I think coldplay likes Midnight more than Magic, that's why they released it first. But as someone already said the first single needs to be this catchy.

10 listens now, and in my opinion it's a 7.5/10. Another catchy song from coldplay, and it's slightly better than paradise IMO. I prefer midnight though, but I understand 'magic' serves better as leading single.

I prefer midnight though, but I understand 'magic' serves better as leading single. I voted the third option on the poll. Maybe its because I haven't listened to the song enough times. I like Midnight more than this. My first reaction to Magic was "What is this!", shock. I'll get over it I suppose because the song is a bit catchy. (I think Paradise is better IMO. :P)

I like Midnight and I like Magic. I do prefer Midnight, but that's just because of the catchy lyric.
Most of all, I am happy to hear that they are capible to make such different track/ styles. Haven't heard a lot of bands which are capible of doing so... (or I haven't looked enhough).

I really really like Magic. I was getting caught up in the lyrics...or the lack of lyrics to be precise but that shouldn't have held me back. For sure there's a lot of refrain but the way Chris Martin delivers them with obvious passion and conviction make it sound honest and personal. It's beautiful to hear Jonny Buckland do what he does best again - creating acute, introverted and glittering guitar work that help the song along smoothly. We barely got any of that on Mylo Xyloto. And it's great to hear Guy with as good a bass line I've heard from him since Square One. The song gets 7.5 or 8/10 for me. As Coldplayfan115 says it is 'refreshing and cool'. I love that they have gone for introspection, and the stripped back approach but sounding as fresh as they have ever done. The two songs released so far in Midnight and Magic are different but they feel right sharing the same album. Like nighttime and daytime that share the same day.

The drum beat and some of the other instruments reminds of Madness by Muse, with more natural instruments.
