Maybe it also depends on the song; Reign of Love easier and less expensive than Yellow?

Bono on Chris Martin 'We were playing with (Every Breaking Wave) for the last album and Chris talked us out of it. He said, 'That one deserves to be finished.' The half-baked version would have denied us this, so we owe him for that... he's a genius and a very self-effacing guy. He's one of our bodyguards.' link

Then how come Bono was talking smack about Chris a few years ago? And they giggle every time they're asked about Coldplay?

It might be better for the business... I actually don't care about U2 too much. Some of their songs are quite nice but they lack identity :S

It all stemmed from Bono calling Chris a wa**** on radio. THIS ARTICLE tells the story. Excerpt: The incident occurred after Whiley played a Coldplay track ahead of the band's arrival in the studio. She asked Bono if he thought that Martin - the husband of actress Gwyneth Paltrow - was as talented as Paul McCartney. Bono replied: 'I think he's that good a melodist, but he's a w*****.' Whiley then cut the star off mid way through his answer saying: 'Would you like to apologise for what you've just said live on my show?' Chris Martin of British band Coldplay Bono joked: 'I'm a reformed character, I don't do that any more.' Whiley retorted: 'You're not showing any signs of being reformed.' The Irish singer then attempted to play down his comments, but ended up insulting the Coldplay singer again. He said: 'He's [Martin] obviously a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin but he happens to be a great melodist and up there with Ray Davis, Noel Gallagher and Paul McCartney.' An embarrassed Whiley was then forced to make an apology herself and added: 'I'm sorry if anyone is listening at the moment who were offended by the words that Bono said. I will apologise on his behalf.' Bono then added: 'I'm sorry, it's early.' He later backtracked on his comments in the interview saying: 'I think they [Coldplay] are a great band and actually, it turns out he’s a great soul as well. 'Sorry about that. I was just joking entirely.' However, there appeared to be no animosity between Bono and Chris Martin when they shared a stage in west London last week at a charity concert after the Brit Awards. Maybe he got tired of the comparisons and then ended up getting to really know and like Chris.

i think he was half joking. but that was the time when coldplay took over the popularity/relevancy from u2. so i think he was annoyed and half insulting because of the constant references to each other. but no matter what he has said or will say since, chris will be the one called a *** by bono for most people.

I thought I might put my youngest son's rendition/version/cover of Atlas here if you might want to have a listen. He plays and sings, and as his mom, ahem, I think it's pretty darned good. LOL! Since it wasn't really planned out, when he got to the end where the guitars kick in on the original song, he wasn't sure where to go, so it ends rather abruptly, but you get the picture. As Chris would say, tell me you love it, if you don't, then lie to me. wink, wink Atlas Cover

I hear the hits quite much, but yesterday I was in the Starbucks in Brugges and I just heard the last seconds of Always in my Head. Never heard that one random on radio, stores or whatever... I heard Ink in the Starbucks in Antwerp earlier this week! Long live the Starbucks in Belgium :p

Thanks, guys! He plays piano, trombone, bagpipes, a little bit of violin and is now learning the guitar, and he loves to piddle around with music and even write a song every now and again, but he doesn't normally sing. He came home from college this weekend and thought he'd surprise me with a CP cover this time, and I loved it, of course! I love all of the stuff he does, but well, you know. LOL! (He is not a music major, but he just loves it a lot.)
