Coldplay Ties Record Atop Adult Alternative Songs, Disturbed Leads Mainstream Rock Chart

The veteran rockers add their latest honors.
Two venerable quartets earn their latest achievements in a long line of rock chart No. 1s.
"Adventure of a Lifetime," the dance/pop-leaning lead single off Coldplay's new album A Head Full of Dreams (due on next week's Billboard 200, dated Dec. 26), rises 2-1 on Adult Alternative Songs, becoming the band's 12th No. 1 on the airplay chart. With the advance, Coldplay ties U2 for the most leaders in the tally's 20-year history.

Coldplay first led Adult Alternative Songs with "In My Place" for three weeks in 2002. Its last chart-topper until this week, "Magic," ruled the April 19, 2014, chart.
Meanwhile, "Lifetime" is being welcomed at other formats, bulleting for a second week at No. 10 on Alternative Songs and rising 13-12 on Adult Pop Songs and 30-28 on Adult Contemporary. On Hot Rock Songs, which measures tracks' popularity via a blend of airplay, sales and streaming, "Adventure" ranks at No. 5 after rising to No. 4. Another new song from A Head Full of Dreams, ballad "Everglow," debuts at No. 8 on Hot Rock Songs (with 28,000 sold, according to Nielsen Music).
In other airplay news, Disturbed scores its fifth No. 1 on Mainstream Rock Songs as "The Light," the second single from Immortalized, lifts 2-1. The set debuted atop the Billboard 200 in September, likewise becoming the group's fifth leader on the list.
Lead Immortalized single "The Vengeful One" first topped Mainstream Rock Songs (Aug. 29), making the album Disturbed's first to generate multiple No. 1s on the airplay chart. Disturbed also links consecutive No. 1s on the ranking for the first time.
"The Light" additionally hits a new peak on Hot Rock Songs (No. 25) and Rock Airplay (No. 14).
