Call it magic Or call it true I call it magic When I'm with you
And I just got broken Broken into two Still I call it magic When I'm next to you
And I don't, and I don't, and I don't, and I don't No I don't, it's true I don't, no I don't, no I don't, no I don't Want anybody else but you I don't, no I don't, no I don't, no I don't No I don't, it's true I don't, no I don't, no I don't, no I don't Want anybody else but you
Oooooh ooh ooh
Call it magic Cut me into two And with all your magic I disappear from view
And I can't get over Can't get over you Still I call it magic You're such a precious truth
And I don't, and I don't, and I don't, and I don't No I don't, it's true I don't, no I don't, no I don't, no I don't Want anybody else but you I don't, no I don't, no I don't, no I don't No I don't, it's true I don't, no I don't, no I don't, no I don't Want anybody else but you
I want to fall Fall so far I want to fall Fall so hard
And I call it magic And I call it true Call it ma-ma-ma-magic
Oooooh ooh ooh Oooooh ooh ooh Oooooh ooh ooh Oooooh ooh ooh
And if you were to ask me After all that we've been through "Still believe in magic?" Yes I do
Well yes I do Yes I do Well yes I do Of course I do
Only parts I'm not 100% sure of are "and of all your magic" and "you're such a precious jewel"... but we'll probably get official lyrics in the coming days. For now, I give you guys this.

Lyrics are not great! There's a lot of repeating. I don't want to sound mean but from A Rush Of Blood To The Head or Fix You and Till Kingdom Come he ends up here. Ohhhhhing and repeating the same thing for 4mins.

As much as I like the song I got to admit a three year old could have made better lyrics xD

Edited now that we've seen the handwritten lyrics from Chris. I was right on "jewel"... BOOM!

As much as I like the song I got to admit a three year old could have made better lyrics xD I'm not defending the lyrics, they're lackluster, but I think that they may have been intentionally simplified because "Magic" is the single. Granted, Coldplay has never seemingly simplified lyrics for their lead singles before.

I see what you're all talking with the whole "simplified lyrics" thing, but I still think they're amazing regardless.

It literally pisses me off when I read the lyrics to myself..... good lord.
Thankfully, it's stripped back sonically.

I never read the lyrics until I know the song. It kind of ruins it for me. I like to listen to it a few times and get to know it as a piece of music before. With this song, we really don't NEED the lyrics anyway, they are pretty easy to interpret.
Thank you for posting them however!

I really dig the music but I really have to tune Chris out to enjoy it (as sad as that sounds). It's the exact same way I feel when listening to X&Y. :(

I guess everyone is different though, and we have different tastes. My son, who is 15 nearly 16 loves X&Y best, I guess he can identify with the angst in the songs. I know others who also love this the best.
The appeal of Cp is they DO appeal to a huge audience, and unfortunately for them, that sometimes alienates them from some sections. But they always find a way to bring people back. Be it a Midnight, or a Paradise, or Moving To Mars. There is something for everyone.
I am hoping GS brings some new fans onboard, at the same time as pleases the older fans. So far I think it shows every promise of that.

I have friends who have sworn off Coldplay (since X&Y wasn't another AROBTTH) that have been dancing to "Magic" since it released; "Midnight" is another story. I have other friends, myself included, who have loved everything they've ever released and are dancing to "Magic" AND "Midnight."

I know others who also love this the best. So Oli is part of my team Good boy! As I already said in the thread about Magic yeah, not their best lyrics but, in my opinion, way better than almost every MX song. It's a love song and a single. Love songs' lyrics are often a little, well, too much cheesy, in this case they are cheesy and very simple, they are catchy because is a single. Don't hate me, you know how I love him, but I have the impression that Chris' writing skills are "getting worse", maybe it's the age, especially in a love song it's difficult for a long married man to find in your feelings the same poetry of a fresh fell in love boy. Another impression I had is that they really want to conquer the new generations. It started with MX and I kinda feel it also with Magic, not every 12 years old kid can appreciate an album like AROBTTH, once again in my opinion, but A LOT of teenage kids can easily love the lyrics from MX [on the other hand, as a 23 years old, so not so old but not a teenager anymore, I found nearly impossible to read myself in most of the MX songs and I think I'm not the only notATeenagerAnymore that found them quite terrible. The first time I heard Charlie Brown's lyrics I was like "Really Chris? Really? What are you a wayward teenager boy or a married man with two kids?"]. But how I was saying Magic is basically a love song, in my opinion, made in a way that nearly everyone with a relationship [even a former relationship] can easily read himself into it. It follows the "Me - You - tormented love [every relationship has a bad moment at one point] - no matter what happened to our relationship I still feel something special to you" recipe. It's made to be liked from every gender and age people. Coldplay want to be a band with a large audience and this is the price: catchy songs with not very high quality lyrics. We have to understand that is not the same band anymore, let me say, that the "I don't mind not being cool" quote by Chris is not so true anymore, not as a band anyway. Midnight has slightly better lyrics but it's the way the song is that really makes Midnight better than Magic. For the last time just in my opinion Anyway the only thing that really get on my nerves is the "And I don't, and I don't, and I don't, and I don't" part.

I honestly don't listen to Coldplay songs for the lyrics. Chris could sing the phone book with Jonny as backup and I'd be cool with that. It seems like Magic is the married Chris' version of Yellow. I like the cool chilled out vibe of Magic and I like Chris' singing on it, so I'm not too worried. I hope there's some meatier music going on in the album.
