NME referring to Coldplay:
"They are currently believed to be working on their sixth studio album."
Maybe we will have to wait a bit more to hear the new album.

It only links to the video. No official announcement of new album or whether Midnight is the first single.

I don't think the rest of LP6 will sound like Midnight. Imagine if you'd heard Reign of Love or The Escapist before VLVODAAHF came out, you would have no idea what the rest of the album would sound like.

And the albums is going to be produced by Paul Epworth / Dan Green and Rik Simpson.

I think they chose Midnight to show what direction they were going. They could have picked a catchy, radio-friendly song. But alas, they opted for this.
