How odd. But that said, it's a beautiful song, hopefully like most said a closer, or an opener.. Now the wait, till they play iTunes.. But I am happy to hear them go all out and sound completely different. Always wondered what they'd do taking a Radiohead perspective on things. This song is pretty much it I think.

I think they chose Midnight to show what direction they were going. They could have picked a catchy, radio-friendly song. But alas, they opted for this. And I applaud them for it. As I said before the song was even released, it feels better than MX already! Do you guys think the whole "stripped down less bombastic" sound promised ages ago will still materialize?!

Some sources are saying it's a standalone thing? Who are these sources? Saw majority through posts on twitter, think gigwise was one and maybe digital spy? but basically saying it's a standalone release, not to be included on the album later this year. They may have just jumped the gun and assumed but it'd be interesting if it doesn't feature on the album... All a bit mysterious.

But then... why did they change the graphics of the website? And why did they release a standalone song? It makes no sense...
I still think it'll be part of LP6.

I read those post on gigwise, etc and they are all speculating. one such site mentioned that they contacted the band reps about the production team and what not and was told that there were no other info on the song. so they are keeping everything very hush-hush. very exciting!

I think it's just because there's so little to go on and it's come a bit out of the blue today, that some people aren't convinced it'll be part of the album in any way. But yeah, why shouldn't it..

The Coldplay Mesenger says "No.1 Vol 7" Yay! Can you clear me up about this? Has there been a "Coldplay Messenger" before? Does that mean there will be more hints/messages coming to us via e-mail? PS: I'm totally sure LP6 will be fantastic and much better than MX. Can't wait to hear more experimental Coldplay.

I feel like the fact that there's no official cover art yet, no place to buy the song, and the fact that they keep referring to Midnight as a "new song" as opposed to a new single (like every other single they've released) means that there's something more going on here. They only teased the song for two days while they hyped Every Teardrop for like two weeks. The website is even still all pink and blue for MX still. I feel like Midnight could just be a huge way to tease us and release a real first single.

Using b sides for teasing? I'd love it!

if this is a bside. that would be so awesome bc there's a video for it.
and more awesome bc that would mean that they will probably release a physical single.

Predicting anything at this stage is daring - all we know is LP6 era is here, and 'Midnight' is the first glimpse into the new sound. I'm sure it's not the last song to feature autotune, too. Which is ok, Chris sounds so different.

Coldplay.com now has a News post for Midnight:
"Midnight 25 February 2014 4:00 pm Watch the video for the new song...."
They aren't telling us anything else.

I feel like the only thing that seems single-esque about Midnight is the fact that there's a video for it. However, it is still strange that they released the video with the song because usually they'd space those things out. It seems like they've either got something up their sleeves, or they've completely thrown away their old formulas for when they release things.
It'd be pretty insane if tomorrow they released the "real" single (perhaps Magic?).
Perhaps there's no revealed cover art yet because this is a b-side and the cover art says the name of the actual single. If this were a b-side for another song, that song's name would be on the cover, not Midnight.
