Whether you love this song or hate it I would like to once again extend a big THANK YOU to comicforce for creating a forum that allows us to share those very opinions on a day like this. How much of a bummer would it be to hear this new song and not be able to talk about it with fellow coldplayers!?! I would also like to tell the mods great job on what is sure to be the first of many busy days soon to come and thank all the coldplayers who made it official and joined the board today to get in on the conversation. Welcome back!

Definitely would be a bummer if we didn't have this great community!!

Yes this website is great! Thank you everyone who took the initiative to find a new home for the Coldplaying community!
Speaking of websites though I wonder what's with Coldplay's website? I wonder if they're waiting again til midnight in Mongolia before they publish whatever they have cooking?

My guess is it's under maintenance for the LP6 era to officially get under way. In the meantime, they've got the Midnight video up.

agreed ^. I'm hoping they release this as a b-side or on an EP like they did with ETIAW, although it seems they've taken a completely different approach to releasing songs this time around.

My mum 's theory (so of course the most important) is that they have sold so many records and are so successful they don't have to worry anymore and can try new things. Plus 'they are getting on a bit' so don't have many more years to play around!!!! (she should work for NME).
Eventually almost every band gets a bit pretentious (in a good way) but i can't see Coldplay doing a whole album that is so avant-garde, like a Radiohead. All in all its a fun time to be a fan.

It appears to be more exciting and interesting for us, the hardcore fans, for the band and for the music industry as general. When Every Teardrop was released I were in shock and disbelief but the song still had some things tha remind me of the last era. When I was finally seeing Mylo Xylo take it's shape I was not too much shocked because the album as to much tracks that remind me of the last albums like Major Minus (AROBTH-X&Y), Hurts Like Heaven(Viva), Charlie Brown (Viva), Us Against The World (all the albums before), Up in Flames (all the albuns before) and Up With The Birds (Viva). MX certanly was a big change but not a too drastic one. I think their desire at the time was to make a whole album like Every Teardrop is A Waterfall, Don't Let It Break Your Heart or something but they were little bit insecure to go fully on this.
Now with the sucess of the last album and the loyalty of the fans I think they're ready to do what they want and explore things the're never done before and not thinking too much of the band as a music genre they had to stuck with. They will do whaterver they wanted and worried about later when this album is finished. And I think it is so refreshing, I think this will be their biggest step for something major. Much more interesting..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had one thought this morning. When we get the Mylo Xyloto announcement, the interesting news was they're putting the album together with a concept for a storyline film that became the Myo Xyloto comics. Chis was saying that they like too sell albums that they know the listeners will have to listen it from the beginning till the end to fully experience the songs. That make me thinking that they're heading to a concept album again. So I think we should not judge anything they will release until the LP6 is finished.
PS: Sorry for my lame english skills.

I think that what they have done with midnight, is the opposite of MX. Many fans didn't like MX because it was a pop album with to mixh background noise. Midnight is definitely not pop and is not overproduced like MX

What if the album is simply entitled 'Coldplay'? If today's track release is anything to go by then it's almost a complete reinvention in sound and style and could be more than justified in the same way Blur did it in 1997. Even The Beatles did but, of course, that album came to be known as The White Album. Chris's friend Danny McNamara has gone with this idea with 'Embrace' being released in late April. Perhaps he and Coldplay have been inspired to do the same? I really hope they do not name this album 'Coldplay'. I'm not so keen on self-titled albums...

And cause I thought they had been producing most of it themselves..

I'm also really pleased Anton Corbijn is working with them again (their Twitter profile photo). Getting more and more hopes for this era.

I hope they won't release a self-titled album because, until now, more or less every album had a central theme that ran through all songs. This concept was always represented by the title. What concept or theme would a album called "Coldplay" represent?

What concept or theme would a album called "Coldplay" represent? It could represent their ambition for change. They are always pushing themselves to explore greater depths and create something unique. So if they name LP6 Coldplay, it could represent what they stand for possibly.
