Hi! I've taken some photos of Berlin for you last month. We have some kind of festival here every year where buildings are illuminated in beautiful colours and it's always really wonderful to be there with all the other impressed people. It's really cool.

Oh that is lovely! How clever.. it looks amazing.
What side of Berlin do you live Dustin? I visited it about 17 years ago. A few years after the wall came down. We had a coach trip there for the day from the airport. We went to a Christmas Market and drove through Checkpoint Charlie.

Oh wow what a great idea! In the 4th picture, do you know what the bikes are for? Do they control the light somehow?

Yeah. The lights go on, when persons ride the bikes If I had been born before 1989, I would have been born as citizen of East Germany.

It is great to see Dustin. I like it because this cheers you up when the days are short and people tend to be inside their homes so much. In Holland we have a similar 'festival' called "glow". I think it is shown in multiple cities but at least in Einhoven - the 'light-city since Philips ;-) Many , many light and vision artists go completely mad and in a week time Glow attracts thousands of people. It is so beautiful to visit for young and old. It is truely inspirational.

Yes it's crazy. We visited just after the wall came down. Amazing to think if it was still up, then we wouldn't be talking to you Dustin I don't suppose. I remember it happening clearly, I had just met my husband and it was quite a year of change, personally and globally.

Yeah. It's wonderful how it all developed. Otherwise, I would be here learning Russian prior to or instead of English, I wouldn't be able to visit countries in the West, there wouldn't be something like the freedom of speech and there wouldn't be bananas in the supermarket... (and I would have never seen Coldplay live LOL) This Sunday, there will be the 25th anniversary of when the wall came down. There are rail strikes from Thursday to Monday morning all over Germany and I cannot think of a worse timing. It will certainly dampen the joy to celebrate the anniversary here, which is quite sad.

I wish I had planned a trip to Berlin this weekend! Heard about it on the radio today, sounds amazing with the lights where the wall used to be. I hope it'll be on TV here, really want to see it. It was very interesting to hear both old and young people, they also mentioned the bananas Too bad with the strikes tho, I hope it works anyway somehow.

Some hours ago they announced that the strikes will stop tomorrow 6 pm. Yeah! Our local channel rbb (= broadcasting company Berlin-Brandenburg) will broadcast a special about it. They will have it as a theme day from 09.11.14 9am to 10.11.14 10am. They will show lots of footage from 1989 and broadcast live when the events here in Berlin will take place. The live broadcast starts at 5:30 pm but the thing with the illuminated ballons starts at 7pm. Maybe you can watch it (with a proxy?)
